End Polio Mile 2025 https://graemecollege.co.za/end-polio-mile-2025/ Fri, 26 Sep 2025 14:34:15 +0000 https://graemecollege.co.za/?p=5278 Join GC Community Outreach and the Rotary Club of Grahamstown for the End Polio Mile 2025!

📅 Date: 24 October 2025
🕔 Time: 5:00 PM
📍 Location: Somerset Field

Walk, run or roll a mile to raise awareness and support the global fight to end polio. Be part of the movement as every step counts!
Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a highly infectious viral disease that primarily affects young children. The virus spreads from person to person, usually through contaminated water or food and can attack the nervous system. In severe cases, it can lead to paralysis or even death.
There is no cure for polio, but it is entirely preventable through safe and effective vaccines. Thanks to global vaccination efforts, polio cases have dropped by over 99% since 1988. However, the fight isn’t over and polio still exists in a few countries and as long as it does, children everywhere remain at risk.
The End Polio Now campaign, led by Rotary International and partners like the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, continues to work tirelessly toward eradicating polio worldwide.
