On Friday, 22 January, the Grade 6 Afrikaans First Additional Language learners stepped beyond the classroom and into an exciting Afrikaans-on-the-move experience as they explored our beautiful campus. Working in small groups under the guidance of team leaders, the boys embraced the challenge of communicating entirely in Afrikaans.
Makhanda’s famously unpredictable weather played along, providing a comfortable 24°C for outdoor learning. From the campus plant life and sports facilities to the cultural complex
and boarding house, each location became a lively point of discussion. The activity also included a closer look at the artwork and symbolism of the school emblem.
More than just a language lesson, the experience fostered teamwork, leadership, cooperation, discipline and independent thinking. In just 50 minutes, learners were immersed in meaningful, real-world language use; all while discovering more about the campus they call home.
