This year, Graeme College entered learners into four different NRF National Science Olympiads, including the grade 4-6 natural science olympiad for the first time. These olympiads take the form of particularly challenging quizzes which test not only content covered in the classroom but also stretch the participants to think deeply and apply their knowledge and logic to complex problems which they would not have encountered before. The majority of the Graeme College learners that took part in the physical science olympiad placed in the top 20% of entrants in the province, with Iviwe Mshubeki (grade 11) claiming the highest mark in the school and ending up in the top 6% of learners in the province. All the Graeme College entrants in the life science olympiad qualified to receive certificates for achieving over 50% for the olympiad, with Jayden Brits (grade 11) impressing with an overall score of 73%. The grade 7 – 9 Graemians performed admirably with all of the entrants placing in the top 25% of learners in the province. Lorien Yazbek (grade 😎 excelled in the competition, achieving an impressive score of 73% and ending in the top 3% of competitors in the province. The youngest leopards to compete also impressed, with Tyler Terblanche (grade 6) standing out with an excellent score of 73%, ensuring his place in the top 5% of learners in the province.
