Our Grade 2 boys had great fun practicing wheelbarrow walks in PT yesterday which is an activity that’s not only exciting but also packed with developmental benefits: Strengthens muscles : builds upper body strength in the shoulders, arms and hands while developing core stability. Improves motor planning: moving in an inverted position requires focus, coordination and planning, boosting overall motor skills. Provides sensory input – the upside-down movement stimulates the vestibular (balance) and proprioceptive (body awareness) systems, which can help with regulation and calming. Enhances bilateral coordination: encourages both sides of the body to work together, strengthening the integration of the left and right brain. Improves postural control: develops the muscles needed for sitting tall, standing strong and maintaining stability. A simple activity with such powerful benefits and the boys enjoyed every moment!
