Off to Turkey!! 🇹🇷 1 of only 3 selected in SA!!
Joshua Danilatos has been invited to attend the 1923 International Mathematics, Science and Engineering Fair (IMSEF) to be held from June 1st – 6th, 2026. He leaves on Sunday.
The moto of the fair this year is ” With the light of science and the balance of nature, a sustainable future is taking shape here, in the hands of young people.”
1923 IMSEF aims to bring together young people of similar age around the world, to make scientific and cultural exchanges, to discover and reveal their induvidual talents.
It all started with entering the Eskom Young Sientist Expo last year. Joshua won gold at the provincial Expo help in Makhanda. He was then selected to go to the Nationals in JHB where he won silver, and from there was selected to represent South Africa at the 1923 IMSEF.
Only 3 students were selected from South Africa.
Joshua’s research was in line with his passion for fishing, conservation and his love for nature.
“The Science of Catch-and-release angling in a Warming Climate”, is the title of his project.
With the guidance and mentorship of masters students and lectures at the Rhodes Echthiology department, Joshua was able to carry out the necessary experiments to collect data and write up a report. It took many hours of work.
He is very grateful to Graeme College, Rhodes Echthiology department and Eskom Young Science Expo for this incredible opportunity.
