So proud!

Earlier this year, Mihlali qualified through the regional rounds of the South African International Ballet Competition, South Africa’s biggest ballet competition, earning his place at the National Competition held in Cape Town from 3–6 September. Competing in the Senior Contemporary categories, Mihlali performed a solo, two duets and a trio. Against strong international competition from dancers from Cuba, Russia, Ireland, Britain, Australia and America, Mihlali achieved an outstanding 1st place in the duet and 1st place in the trio.

Mihlali then travelled to Gqeberha for the Friendly City Dance Festival, where he continued his remarkable run of success. He received double gold for his character contemporary piece, as well as gold for his contemporary solo, duet and trio.

Having qualified for the Senior Modern Championship category last year after earning two golds at the festival, Mihlali returned to compete in the championship and was named Runner-Up in the Senior Modern Boys Championship.

The success continued when the trio was invited to perform at the festival’s Gala Show on the 20th.
