The last of the interhouse soccer fixtures were played on Monday, 7 September 2026, with Hutton taking on log leaders Nielson House.
It was apparent from early on that Nielson had bitten off more than they could chew, as Hutton put them under pressure from the first whistle. Hutton went on to win the match convincingly, with a 4β2 scoreline.
This meant that the final game of the day would decide who would be crowned league champions. Wiles came out of the gates guns blazing, racing into a 3β1 lead in no time. Vernal fought back with a goal of their own, ensuring that the final 10 minutes of the game were nothing short of thrilling.
Wiles scored again to make it 4β1, but a last-minute gasp from Vernal made it clear that they were not going to take defeat lying down. Vernal scored two quick goals, but their valiant comeback ultimately proved to be too little, too late. Wiles held on to win 4β3, toppling the log leaders in the process and winning the league on goal difference.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the league such a success. A special hat-tip to our first aiders, who were on hand and available for every match.
We now look forward to our final fixture against St Andrews tomorrow afternoon on Knowling Field.
