The Graeme 1st XI produced a 5-wicket victory over Pearson in Gqeberha. Winning the toss and electing to bowl proved to be the correct decision by the Graeme skipper. The bowling attack operating with remarkable consistency and control to put the hosts immediately on the back foot.
Corbin Tidbury and James Muir led the charge, with three wickets apiece. They were backed up brilliantly by Lisekho Zinyane and Caleb Jattiem, who chipped in with two wickets each. Pearson had no answer and were bundled out for just 109 in 30 overs.
What looked to be a comfortable chase on paper quickly turned into a tense affair. Pearson fought back with the ball, leaving Graeme wobbling after going into lunch on 44/2. Zuko Pontshi played a pivotal role, anchoring the top order with a patient, watchful 21 runs to keep the scoreboard ticking and steady the ship. Despite Pontshi’s resilience, Graeme found themselves in a spot of real bother at 55/5, with the match hanging in the balance.
Captain Andrew Muir joined forces with all-rounder James Muir in a high-pressure situation. Demonstrating composure and game awareness, the duo halted Pearson’s momentum and shared an unbeaten 55-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Which saw Graeme over the line, sealing a memorable 5-wicket away triumph.
