DERBY DAY “CLASSIC” ENTHRALLS. Enjoying an excellent season, the talented and in form Graeme College 1st XV was full value for their 34-22 win over arch-rivals, St Andrews College this afternoon. Played in perfect conditions on the picturesque St Andrews Lower Field, the match kept a large crowd entertained throughout. Graeme dominated the first half with well-executed tries to which St Andrews was only able to reply with a penalty on the half-time whistle making it 22-3 at the break. But a revitalised St Andrews then crossed for two quick tries after the resumption, making it 22-15 and anyone’s game. Another unconverted try by Graeme established a comfortable 12-point lead but which St Andrew’s again reduced to just 5 points before Graeme clinched matters with a final converted try. The match was very well officiated and the best of Derby Day spirits prevailed on and off the field.
