The 2026 athletics season resumed in the third term with the much-anticipated Interhouse Athletics Competition on Wednesday, 2 September, preceded by pre-events on Tuesday, 1 September. The early morning gloomy weather couldn’t dampen the spirits of the Graemian athletes, who came out in their numbers to compete in a variety of events.

There were two schools of thought at play on the day. The first was to compete at a high level, win an event and perhaps even attempt to break a record. The second was mass participation — competing in numbers to accumulate more collective House points and stand a chance of winning the coveted Interhouse Trophy.

Whichever the reason, there was palpable and fierce, but healthy, competition amongst our athletes. We commend all those who participated in good faith and in the true spirit of sport.

The overall winners are tabulated below. We congratulate all participants, and the winners in particular, on their achievements. Furthermore, for some athletes, this is certainly not the end of the road.

It is worth mentioning that those athletes who placed 1st in the U14, U16 and U19 events will be given the opportunity to compete at the Hirsch Shield Athletics in Komani, hosted by Queen’s College, on Saturday, 19 September.

We wish all those representing Graeme College the very best of luck!
