The Bishops 1st XV vs Graeme College (at the St John’s Festival)

To the neutral spectator, this would have been a wonderful display of schoolboy rugby and a thrilling game to follow. The Boys in Blue certainly threw everything they had at their opponents, but the bounce of the ball and a couple of key moments went against them, despite their valiant efforts from the first whistle to the last. Though Bishops were leading at half-time, the team from Makhanda just never went away. Kudos to their most impressive back-line which hardly put a foot wrong throughout the match, scoring a couple of spectacular tries on the day. When it was all over, both teams received a sustained round of applause from a most appreciative crowd. Ten tries in all certainly made for a most memorable encounter! Final score: Bishops (19) 26; Graeme College (13) 41 A heartfelt vote of thanks to our hosts and to the organizers of this Festival; the boys and staff attached to the team are incredibly grateful for the warm welcome received and thoroughly enjoyed their time at St John’s.
