The regional finals for the 2026 Eskom Expo for Young Scientists took place on Saturday 1 August at Rhodes University. Six Graemians were selected to present their work in a tough pool of competitors consisting of over 100 projects. The boys represented their school admirably and each one walked away with a prize. Timothy Shaw received a bronze award and the Royal Society of Chemistry best junior project (and was the youngest participant on the day). Tristan Boy and Benjamin Shaw received silver awards. Jedd Youthed received a silver award and the best computer science project award. Salizwa Makhalima received a silver award and a prize from the statistics department. And Danny Czeredricki-Schmidt, who has an excellent Expo track record, pulled it out of the bag this year, winning a gold award and finishing as one of the top three projects in the finals, receiving a Rhodes bursary. A massive congratulations to these young scientists and very big thank you to the organising committee for ensuring the smooth running of a busy day of high quality projects and Rhodes university for their continued support of and generosity towards this event.
